Our Script So Far:
What I like about our script:
- I really like how our draft script is detailed at the moment. However, the detail varies meaning that it can easily be edited and worked around without deleting huge chunks or having to re-write a entire new script because it didn't match the chosen location.
- I like how the text links to the action of a camera. It gives the impression that the protagonist is telling the story as it happens, despite the flashbacks being set in the past.
- I like how short and simple the script it. A common misconception is the length of the script and the time it takes to record on the script. It all depends on the pace of the filming and the speech. It is better for the script to be short and have more added to it rather than it being too long and having to re-write bits so it will still fit the narrative.
What I don't like about our script:
- Despite saying I prefer having a short script and adding to it, it could still be a potential problem while filming. For example, when we film the speak may only take up 30 seconds when it needs to be two minutes, and last minute improvisation leads to mistakes. However, I would prepare for this by rehearsing the script with the actor in a similar way to how they would speak it on the final voice recording. If the script is to short or too long, I can edit it down before filming in order to save any last minute panics.
- I don't 100% like Olive's voice over. It sounds very dramatic and slightly unlike how a common teen would talk - however, she has suffered a traumatic experience. In order to fix this, I will have to ask peers what they think and talk to my partner, Kieran about how to fix her voice over.
Our Storyboard:
What I think about the storyboard:
What I think about the storyboard:
- I like the simplicity of the storyboard. It shows the locations and a few of the props. However, this simplicity would cause others to be confused as they will be unaware of our narrative. For example, here is my close friend reacting to the storyboard:
- This storyboard is our first draft to establish the locations and how they would be viewed. It also makes it easier for Kieran and I to edit the storyboard in the future as we can add or take away from the storyboard. It is obvious that we shall not be following this storyboard when we start to film.
What Have I Learnt?
- From this, I have learnt that writing a script is hard. A script needs lots of detail so filming can go smoothly and too plan, but there can't bee too much detail just incase something needs to be reworked. I have also learnt that it is hard to assume how much film time a script will take up. Because of this, I will have to try several tests of the script to insure it takes up a reasonable amount of time.
