Task 18: Typography

Typography:

Typography is a very important feature when showing text in a film. The text can convey the films genre swell as appealing to a target audience. The typography can also have hidden meaning such as the characters personality and characteristics.  Below are some of the fonts that Kieran found suited our film's sub-genre (horror) best.

As you can see, The fonts selected are curly to represent a childlike nature, bold to stand out and slightly distorted to imply our horror sub-genre.

After asking peers and questioning them about their favourite font, the selected font was Impact Label as shown above. I like this font as it looks like horror writing but it also looks curly and slightly childish, showing the main genre (coming of age.)

What have I learnt?

From this task I have learnt that typography is very important to our film. Since our sub-genre is horror, it would be too easy to show a distorted, destroyed font to convey horror. However, our main genre is coming-of-age and having a scary font would make audiences believe the film's main genre is horror instead of coming-of-age.
