(The opening to mean girls is not available on YouTube so I am unable to paste a embed code so the two openings are easy to compare.)
StoryBoard:
What Went Well?
- Video Quality: The quality is amazing. This is great when mimicking the original opening sequence because it makes the copy seem like a professional remake.
- Green screen: The green screen went a lot better tan expected. Despite the images of Africa not being the same as the ones used in the film, It clearly shows the setting and the green screen is neatly edited in. All the photos look realistic.
- Editing: The editing is great. The footage all links together well and flows well. Effects such as fade, sound effects and freeze framing footage have been added well and they flow very smoothly with the footage.
- Camera: The angles are very similar to the angles used in the original opening. They may not be exactly the same but I wouldn't expect a group of aspiring filmers to nail a film recreation absolutely perfectly.
- Sound: The sound track used is the exact same as the one used in the original film. The music also syncs up in time with the shots. The voice over is clear and flows smoothly. It also lines up with the shots just like the original opening.
What didn't go so well?
- Sound doesn't flow perfectly, if you listen carefully you can hear how the background noises change volume. Some scenes the wind was was too extreme to edit out. However, I attempted to reduce background noise in the editing process - It didn't make much of a difference.
- Some scenes from the original opening are missing from our replica opening. For example, there is a shot of a house in the original opening but in our opening we unfortunately didn't film this shot as we didn't realise it was meant to be there.
What I have I Learnt?
From this task, I have learnt that filming a professional opening sequence is not as easy as one may think. This task took my group a while as it required lots of planning as we decided to choose a tricky opening sequence. Despite this, we have all learned many skills. I successfully taught my group how to green screen and edit it in. My group has also learnt that trying to recreate a setting is very hard. But, we tried our hardest with the resources we had to mimic many scenes in the film. Despite all the problems my group and I faced, we were still able to pull this off and I am very proud of my group (claps to Mona, Kieran and Immy <3.)
